Re-public of culture workers

Open call for artists and cultural practitioners from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Dates of the program: September 19 – October 10, 2022
Place: Chisinau, Moldova
Program will cover: international travel, accommodation, per diem, as well as materials costs for projects created as the practical part of the program

 

3 weeks creative laboratory in Casa Zemstvei (Zemstvo – local government house) in Chisinau, open for emerging artists and cultural practitioners from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, whose activity  can include a wide variety of ideas, methods of implementation and the practices such as fine art, design, performance, media art, film, architecture, academic research or social action.

The work in the laboratory will be built around  the topic of self-organization and will focus on the question of how the group can overcome disintegration and fragmentation, the barriers that tend to destroy the entity of the  individual and society in times of crisis. The laboratory will aim to find possible models of society and create resilience of the international cultural community by building alternative cultural infrastructures.

The program has two blocks: theoretical and practical. The theoretical block includes workshops and presentations as well as site visits and meetings with activists, researchers and social and arts organizations of Moldova. During the practical block the participants will conduct collaborative art projects with the community of Casa Zemstvei as well as local organizations and initiatives from Chisinau.

Cultural Center in Casa Zemstvei appeared in 2012. It is functioning as an independent platform based on principles of  inclusion, openness, accessibility and self-organization. It contributes to the diversification of cultural life in Chisinau and offers a new understanding of the role that culture and civic engagement can perform in Moldova.
